		<directions>
				<note>make cookies</note>
				<step>Preheat oven to 350°F.</step>
				<step>Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.</step>
				<step>Stir together buttermilk and vanilla in a cup.</step>
				<step>Beat together butter and sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer until pale and fluffy, about 3 minutes.</step>
				<step>add egg, beating until combined well.</step>
				<step>Mix in flour mixture and buttermilk mixture alternately at low speed, beginning and ending with flour mixture</step>
				<step>Mix until smooth.</step>
				<step>Spoon 1 Tbsp. of batter about 1 inches apart onto a buttered large baking sheet.</step>
				<step>Place in middle of oven.</step>
				<step>Bake 11 to 13 minutes, until tops are puffed and pale golden, and cookies spring back when touched.</step>
				<step>Transfer with a metal spatula to a rack.</step>
				<step>Cool cookies to room temperature, about 5 minutes. </step>
				<note>make icing</note>
				<step>Put confectioners sugar, corn syrup, vanilla, and 1 tablespoon water in a small bowl</step>
				<step>Stir until smooth.</step>
				<step>Transfer quarter of icing to another bowl and stir in cocoa.</step>
				<step>Add more water, 1/2 teaspoon at a time, to thin to same consistency as white icing.</step>
				<step>Melt butterscotch chips in microwave.</step>
				<step>Add a little water, 1/2 teaspoon at a time, to thin to same consistency as white icing.</step>
				<step>Ice cookies: </step>
				<step>Turn cookies flat sides up.</step>
				<step>Spread white icing.</step>
				<step>Dot with chocolate and butterscotch icings, in a dalmatian pattern.</step>
				<step>Wait at least 5 minutes.</step>
